More information about Alaska

Alaska itself is divided into different geographic and temperate zones. The Arctic habitat is home to thousands of caribou, arctic fox, musk ox, wolves and polar bears and brown bears.

Moving West we encounter huge migratory bird populations throughout the River deltas (Yukon and Kuskokwim) north of Bristol Bay. Similar natural world residents to that of the Arctic region, this region also has all five species of Pacific salmon and Brown bears, Black bears and - on occasion - Polar Bears.

South West Alaska does not have much to shout about in regards to large fauna with only a few residents including feral fox and caribou on some of the Aleutian Islands.

Interior Alaska - the wildlife in the taiga forests is less obvious than in other areas due to the harsh climate. Wolves, lynx, moose and caribou grow thicker coats in order to keep the cold out.

South East Alaska - with its huge lush rainforests, it is home to larger volumes of wildlife including species such as bald eagle, large number of brown bears on Admiralty Island, wolves, mosses, sea otters and whales in Glacier Bay National Park.

What to Expect on Your Alaska Bear Viewing Holiday: Alaska can be a harsh forbidding climate, however when travelling with World Bear Safaris, we put you in the right place at the right time in order to maximise your bear viewing experience.

Alaska lodges and accommodation may not always be 5 star, however you can be sure that it will be the best positioned in order to satisfy your wildlife viewing requirements.

Accommodation can be in cosy, comfortable lodges such as Brooks Falls Lodge, or alternatively it can be in the slightly less luxurious accommodation such as on our Kodiak to Katmai Grizzly Bear Tour where you will be staying in a small ship. However, this does allow for unrivalled Grizzly Bear Viewing.
